On December 14, 2021, a Cook County jury rendered a verdict in favor of our client following a 6-week trial. The estate of deceased plaintiff was represented by Tom Hart of South Carolina and Bob Clifford’s office of Chicago in the extended asbestos trial in Cook County, IL.
In closing argument plaintiff’s counsel recommended an award of $92.6 million for the 56-year-old insulator, who died from mesothelioma, against four defendants, as being “fair and reasonable compensation” for the Riebel family. The final demand was a global demand for the four defendants for $25 million. Prior to trial, plaintiff’s counsel refused to discuss settlement with any of the defendants. Trial counsel from SDH included Manny Sanchez, Renee Ziolkowski and Mark Winters.
