Pictured – Manny and Scholars
On Monday, August 11 Manny Sanchez hosted his 16th Swing for Scholars golf outing at the Naperville Country Club.
With sold out golf and over 40 sponsors, Swing for Scholars raised more than $220,000 – and we’re still counting! Proceeds will benefit Chicago Scholars, a three-tier mentoring program that helps academically talented, underserved and first generation students into college, through college, and beyond to successful careers.
Manny kicked off the event with a group photo featuring Swing’s celebrity guest, former Chicago Bears tight end, Robocop Jim Thornton. Jim stepped in to Manny’s foursome to replace Dan Hampton, who was unfortunately unable to attend this year’s outing. During the evening awards ceremony, Jim told a packed room of golfers that, out of the dozens of charity outings he plays in each year, Swing for Scholars was one of the best he’s ever attended, and he plans to come back next year.
Armed with mulligans and putting string, 124 golfers hit the course to try to best Manny, last year’s reigning champion. But Swing golfers were no match for Robocop Jim Thornton and Robocop #2 – Manny Sanchez – whose foursome came in first place AGAIN this year with a score of 50!! Golfers were left scratching their heads and asking “A 50?!!?”; “What did we miss – we bought plenty of mulligans!”; and “What gives?”.
Manny told the crowd, “It’s not ‘what gives’ – it’s what’s given that counts. All of our tremendous supporters, like you, who continue to give so generously to help these well-deserving kids, are so greatly appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Thank you most sincerely!
